In a surprising turn of events, MSC Cruises has announced the cancellation of its scheduled voyage on the MSC Poesia, which was set to embark from Southampton, England, on February 13, 2026. This news has left many travelers disappointed and scrambling for alternatives.
The company cited "operational reasons" as the cause for this cancellation in an official communication sent to guests who had booked their spots on the cruise. The MSC Poesia was meant to conclude its winter season in Northern Europe before embarking on an exciting repositioning journey to the Mediterranean Sea. During this ten-night cruise, passengers were looking forward to exploring various beautiful destinations across Spain, Portugal, and Italy, culminating in a stop at the historic city of Valletta in Malta.
MSC Cruises expressed regret over the situation, stating, "Regrettably, due to operational reasons affecting the deployment of the MSC Poesia, we have had to cancel the scheduled cruise." The company empathized with the travelers, acknowledging the significant time and effort that goes into planning such vacations. They extended their sincerest apologies for any inconvenience or disappointment this cancellation may cause.
In terms of financial compensation, MSC Cruises assured affected customers that they would process a full refund for the fares paid promptly. Additionally, they indicated that any documented out-of-pocket expenses directly associated with the cancelled trip, such as flight costs, would also be refunded. To further mitigate the impact of this cancellation, MSC is offering a Future Cruise Credit worth 50 percent of the fare paid for the cancelled sailing, as a goodwill gesture to those inconvenienced.
Currently, the MSC Poesia is operating in Northern Europe, providing a series of seven-night cruises that allow guests to visit several captivating locations including England, Germany, the Netherlands, France, and Belgium.
Looking ahead, the MSC Poesia is slated to undergo a significant refurbishment, becoming the latest addition to the company’s Musica-class fleet to receive extensive upgrades. Following in the footsteps of the MSC Magnifica, this 2008-built ship will enter dry dock at the Palumbo Shipyard in Malta, where it will be enhanced with new amenities, including the luxurious MSC Yacht Club. This exclusive area will feature larger suites and private spaces such as a dedicated restaurant, lounge, and pool deck, elevating the onboard experience for guests.
Moreover, the MSC Poesia is gearing up for an exciting summer season in 2026, marking MSC's inaugural journeys into Alaska and the Pacific Northwest, with operations launching from Seattle.
This cancellation may evoke mixed feelings, especially among those who had been looking forward to this unique travel opportunity. What do you think about the company’s decision?
