The inspiration for this kitchen came from a variety of sources, including American-style kitchens with generous proportions and built-in features, as well as British kitchen brand deVOL and designer Rose Uniacke. The goal was to create a space that felt reminiscent of happy family life, a blend of modernity and tradition, and an eye-catching hue of blue. The design process involved a clear outline of colors and materials, a natural palette of wood, ebonized finishes, brass, bronze, and quartzite, which provided the perfect backdrop for exploring bold, playful elements.
The kitchen's functionality was just as important as its aesthetics. The original structure of the space offered freedom with its generous proportions, but it also presented complications, such as an awkward bulkhead. To maximize storage and make the architecture feel intentional, the cabinetry was taken right up to the ceiling. A full-height pantry, discreetly concealed behind what appears to be another cabinet, further enhanced the kitchen's functionality.
The design also incorporated a built-in, sliding kitchen ladder, a stylish and practical solution for utilizing the impressive height of the space. The kitchen island, with its blue-and-white checkered tiles, adds a playful note and prevents the scheme from feeling overly stylized. The final result is a space that feels sophisticated and childlike, a perfect blend of aesthetics and functionality.
